Italian lakes: TOP-10 places that will fascinate you with unforgettable landscapes


Italy is a country where there is everything: the richest historical heritage, numerous works of art and fascinating untouched nature: from mountains to sandy beaches, from ancient cities to resorts on the islands. This time we were inspired by Italian lakes. These are real wonders of nature that will not leave anyone indifferent.

Italian lakes: Ceresole Lake

An artificial lake was created in 1925-1932 in the Province of Turin together with the construction of a hydroelectric power plant and a dam. Compared to large Italian lakes, it is relatively small, however its picturesque surroundings allowed us to include it in our list.

This place is a real paradise for those who enjoy water sports. Besides, it features a large hiking trail that allows to explore the surroundings and enjoy breathtaking mountain views.

Predil Lake

It is located in the province of Udine, near the Slovenian border, and is surrounded by forests and alpine landscapes. In the middle of the lake, provides a good rest, there is a small island. Crystal clear water and a magnificent beach invite to take a swim on a hot day. Besides, there are kayaks, sailboats, pedal boats, surfing bikes, kayaks. There is even a windsurfing school for active holidaymakers.

In order to preserve an ecologically clean, natural area there are no hotels, shops and bars. But in order to get here, you should overcome a mountain serpentine!

Italian lakes: Lake Iseo

The lake is fed by the Oglio River and located near the ancient historical cities of Brescia and Bergamo in beautiful Lombardy. The crystal clear lake is surrounded by lush greenery. And no industry around! This is the most precious of untouched natural wonders.

There are several medieval cities and villages on the coast, as well as shops, cafes and restaurants. Lake Iseo is located in the wine region of Franciacorta, which produces world famous sparkling wines. Great opportunity to try some of them!

Lake Orta

Lake Orta is located in the northern part of the country, not far from Lake Maggiore. Its coastline looks typically Italian — surrounded by picturesque cities that provide travelers with luxurious rooms and excellent restaurants.

In the middle of the lake is the only island on which historical buildings are located.

Italian lakes: Prags Lake

Located in South Tyrol, emerald green Prags Lake is truly one of the most beautiful in this area. Surrounded by the Dolomites, the lake offers a romantic summer trip. Around there are various hiking trails passing through picturesque places. You can take an unforgettable mountain adventure and climb up the Dolomites!

In addition to the magnificent nature, there is an old wooden lake house, where you can take a boat and enjoy a trip around the lake.

Lake Como

Glacial Lake Como covers a vast area of 146 square kilometers (56 square miles) and is one of the most famous lakes in the world. This is a popular place for recreation and entertainment. Here you can go sailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing. This is a paradise for those who crave adrenaline. Guests love to relax in sanatoriums, go to the beach, play golf or tennis. The luxurious villas are open to the public and serve as museums.

By choosing one of the many hiking routes, you will get the opportunity to get acquainted with the magnificent nature and rich wildlife. There is another great way to explore the lake and the many villages scattered around it — a ferry. The lake and its surroundings are truly unique!

Italian lakes: Lake Maggiore

The second largest Italian lake lies in the southern Alps in Lombardy, near Switzerland. In summer, a music festival Spirit of Woodstock takes place on the beach. Besides, there are many outdoor activities throughout the year.

The lake, surrounded by a beautiful landscape, is located in a zone of mild Mediterranean climate.

Lake Lugano

This magnificent glacial lake is located both in Italy and Switzerland. The forested mountains of San Giorgio, which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, are clearly visible from the city of Lugano (which is already in Switzerland!). This largest city on the coast of the lake has everything you need for a pleasant stay.

Visitors can enjoy water sports, swimming, boating, mountain hiking and much more.

Italian lakes: Misurina Lake

Located at an altitude of 1754 meters above sea level, Misurina is an exceptionally beautiful, crystal clear lake. The air here is also very clean and fresh. Lake Garda

Located in the alpine region, formed by glaciers and surrounded by ancient cities (such as Verona, Venice, Milan), Garda is the largest lake in Italy. Numerous historic cities and villages are scattered along its coast. They provide tourists with cozy restaurants, SPA centers, hotels. There is a lot of historical architecture. The natural beauty of this alpine pearl is impeccable.

The lake is a wonderful relaxation area, which provides numerous water activities, hiking trails, mountain biking, horse riding, rock climbing, skiing and much more.
